Installation Guide

Prerequisites

Before beginning installation, verify these requirements:

Download Process

1. Access Download Page

   Navigate to chatgpt.com/atlas in any browser. The official download page will load with the latest Atlas version.

2. Initiate Download

   Click "Download for macOS" button. The installer (approximately 250-350MB) begins downloading to your Downloads folder.

3. Monitor Progress

   Download completes in 2-6 minutes depending on connection speed. Track progress via your browser's download indicator.

Installation Steps

1. Launch Installer

   Double-click the downloaded .dmg file in your Downloads folder to mount the installer.

2. Install Application

   Drag the Atlas icon into your Applications folder when the installer window appears.

3. Complete Installation

   macOS copies Atlas to Applications (15-30 seconds). A progress bar indicates completion status.

4. Cleanup

   Eject the installer disk image by right-clicking and selecting "Eject" or dragging to Trash.

First Launch

1. Open Atlas

   Navigate to Applications and double-click ChatGPT Atlas. Alternatively, use Spotlight (⌘+Space) and type "Atlas".

2. Security Approval

   macOS may display: "Atlas was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" Click "Open" to proceed.

3. Grant Permissions

   Atlas requests necessary permissions for network access and notifications. Review and approve as appropriate.

Account Connection

1. Select Authentication Method

   Choose sign-in option: Email, Google, Microsoft, Apple ID, or other providers linked to your OpenAI account.

2. Authenticate

   Enter credentials and complete two-factor authentication if enabled on your account.

3. Synchronize Data

   Atlas automatically syncs your ChatGPT conversation history from web. This occurs in background.

Data Import

Transfer bookmarks, passwords, and history from your current browser:

1. Begin Import

   During setup, click "Import from Browser" or access later via Settings > Import Data.

2. Choose Source

   Select browser to import from: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, or others. Atlas auto-detects installed browsers.

3. Select Data Types

   Choose what to import: Bookmarks, Passwords, History, Settings. Select all or be selective.

4. Complete Import

   Import processes in 1-5 minutes based on data volume. Progress indicator displays status.

Note: Import can be performed anytime via Settings if skipped during initial setup.

Configuration

Set Default Browser (Optional)

1. Open System Settings

   Navigate to System Settings > Desktop & Dock (or General in older macOS).

2. Locate Browser Setting

   Find "Default web browser" dropdown menu.

3. Select Atlas

   Choose "ChatGPT Atlas" from list. All web links now open in Atlas.

Troubleshooting

Post-Installation

After completing setup:

• Complete the interactive tour (highly recommended)
• Experiment with agent mode if available
• Configure privacy settings to your preference
• Import bookmarks if not done initially
• Explore keyboard shortcuts in Settings
• Join OpenAI community forums for tips

Atlas receives frequent updates automatically:

Uninstallation

To remove Atlas from your Mac:

1. Quit ChatGPT Atlas completely
2. Open Applications folder
3. Locate ChatGPT Atlas
4. Move to Trash (drag or right-click)
5. Empty Trash to finish
6. Optional: Remove app data from ~/Library/Application Support/ChatGPT Atlas

Your ChatGPT conversations remain accessible at chat.openai.com after uninstalling.
